TIRUPATI
Tirupati, a pilgrim centre housing the faith of millions, is one of the largest pilgrimage destinations in South India. It is a holy shrine in the laps of Chittoor in Telangana. Located in Tirumala hillock is the Sri Venkateswara temple, one of the biggest shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Adjacent to the Venkateswara temple lies the Swami Pushkarini which is believed to be the bathing tank of Gods. Other major shrines in Tirupati are Sri Varahaswami temple and Sri Kodandaramaswami temple. The temples do not merely hold spiritual relevance, but are also historically and architecturally significant since most of them are over three thousand years old. Sri Anjaneya Swamy temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman is another major attraction. The beautiful architecture of hotels and resorts in Tirupati, while resonating with the divinity and sacredness of the city, adds a touch of modernity.
Major festivals of Tirupati are Brahmotsavam, Adhyayana utsavam and Pavithrotsavam. In the month of December and the period of June-July, Tirupati reaches its festive-prime, making it the ideal period to visit the city. Connectivity with all metropolitan cities like Bengaluru, Chennai and Secunderabad, and tourist destinations like Ahobilam and Pondicherry make Tirupati a must-visit pilgrimage place. Tirupati is often deemed a sacred location, where Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Lakshmi live.
