Shri Lingaraja Temple

This temple began the evolution of temple architecture in Bhubaneshwar when it was built in the 11th century AD. The temple is 180 feet tall and has 64 small shrines, apart from the grand shrine for Lords Shiva and Vishnu. Make sure to also visit the Rameshwar Deula (known as Mausi Maa), located 2 km ahead of the Lingaraja shrine.

Shri Rajarani Temple

Locally fabled to be named so for being a resort for Oriya Kings and Queens, the temple actually gets its name from the unique sandstone used for its construction. It was built in the 10th century AD, the temple is adorned with multiple carvings and statues depicting various scenes from ancient times. It is also home to the famous Rajarani Music Festival held in the month of January.

Shri Mukteshwar Temple

One of the smaller temples of the city, Mukteshwar is known for its 8-petal lotus carved in the ceiling of the temple porch, as well as the beautiful stone archway. The carved lion-head motifs were amongst the first carved images during the time. The temple also has sculpted figures from Panchatantra folk tales, Hindu mythology, meditation poses and more on the outside.

Shri Brahmeshwar Temple

The temple was built for Lord Brahmeshwar, a form of Lord Shiva, in the 11th century AD. It is a 60-feet long temple and was the first in the state to use iron beams for construction. There are many icons of dancers and musicians on the walls along with carvings of erotic couples.

Shri Yogini Temple

The temple architecture showcases 64 figures of yogini goddesses carved inside the walls. All the yoginis are depicted with great detail and accuracy, making it a marvel in history. The temple surroundings are extremely relaxing and calming, thus attracting devotees to spend quality time here.
