One of the most prominent festivals of Madurai is Pongal, which is celebrated in January to honor the Sun and the livestock. Chithirai festival is celebrated in the months of April-May. More than one million devotees and travellers witness the holy matrimony of Lord Sundareswarar and goddess Meenakshi during this festival. The city is highly enthused during its festivities. Other events in Madurai include App Development workshops, food festivals and terracotta jewellery making workshops and cooking marathons among many others.
