3 Reasons that Will take you Closer to Nature at Sultanpur National Park

The cooing of the Common Hoopoe, shiny blue glints of the Kingfisher and bright green, rose-ringed Parakeets; these are just some of the many birds that you could catch glimpses of at Sultanpur National Park. It is a place where you can come close to nature and get away from the hectic city life. If that isn’t reason enough, here are three reasons that will convince you to visit Sultanpur National Park –

1. Its Accessibility is a Big Plus

Sultanpur National Park is located conveniently close to Gurgaon and Delhi. Reach the park early in the morning to watch the birds stir for the day. The park opens in the morning at 06:30 AM and is open till 06:00 PM in the summers and 04:30 PM in the winters. The area of the park is quite small, only about 1.42 sq km, but it packs quite a punch with more than 250 species of birds calling it home.

2. Its Winters Are Magnificent

North India can be a dreary place in the winters with the temperature touching single digits. But the weather, however, brings in migratory birds that travel from far off countries, like Siberia, Afghanistan and parts of Europe, to India. In the winters the Sultanpur Jheel (lake) becomes home to a variety of birds, including the majestic Saurus Crane, Siberian Crane, Greater Flamingo, and a host of duck species, like Northern Pintail, Yellow Wagtail and Northern Shoveller. You can also spot pelicans and storks. Most of these species are found in flocks and are a treat for bird watchers and photographers.

3. Resident Birds Are Great Too

The resident bird population of the park can beat the migrants any day, and you can sight them in the summers too. Some of the commonly sighted birds are Common Hoopoe, Little Cormorant, Indian Roller, White-throated Kingfisher, Spot-billed Duck, Great Egret, and Cattle Egret. There are many bunds and mounds made in the park where you can sight the birds from. The park authorities have also made four machans, or watch towers, from where you can spot them. It is advisable to take your own binoculars to make the best of your trip.

Sultanpur National Park is a favourite jaunt of the birds all year round. So, plan your stay with Fortune Hotels in Gurgaon in order to reach the park with ease.
