Dal Lake

Considered as an identity of Srinagar, the iconic Dal Lake is one of the must-see attractions of the city. The lake stretches for over 8kms, with the calm waters reflecting the mist-capped peaks of nearby mountains. The highlight of the lake are the shikaras, which you can rent for a 120-140 minutes’ ride across the lake. The shikara ride is one of the most romantic activities for couples visiting the city.

Mughal Gardens

Jammu and Kashmir has six Mughal Gardens and each one of them is a perfect example of the beauty of nature.

• Shalimar Bagh: The largest of its kind, Shalimar Bagh, located minutes away from the Dal Lake, is designed with some of the best techniques of Mughal horticulture. The best season to visit the garden would be during the spring and autumn months.
• Nishat Bagh: The second-largest Mughal Garden, Nishat Bagh is located very close to Shalimar Bagh. The garden is an ideal location for breath-taking views of the Pir Panjal Mountains.
• Achabal Garden: Yet another fine creation of the Mughals, the Achabal Garden is located 7kms away from Anantnag. This hillside, terraced garden attracts thousands of tourists every year.
• Chashma Shahi: The appealing charm of Chashma Shahi, with its fresh water spring and large fountain, is truly irresistible. It was built in the 17th century around a spring located in the Zabarwan mountain range.
• Pari Mahal: Fondly called the Fairy’s Abode, Pari Mahal sits atop the Zabarwan Mountain and is situated right across the city of Srinagar. Tourists visiting the garden enjoy the multi-level terraced gardens and its fantastic views.
• Verinag Garden: As you enter the city, Verinag Garden lies at the entrance of the Kashmir Valley. This huge garden has a historical importance as it was considered to be the favourite of Nur Jahan.

Sankaracharya Temple

The Sankaracharya Temple is one of the oldest shrines in the state, believed to have been built by Raja Gopadatya in 371 BC. Perched on a small mountain, it is a must-visit for Hindus, as well as non-Hindus who come to admire its architecture. One of its highlights are the hundred steps found inside the temple with valuable inscriptions on them.

Hazratbal Mosque

Hazratbal Mosque is located very close to Dal Lake and is one of the most significant religious spots for Muslims in Srinagar. Built during the early 17th century, it is the only domed mosque in Srinagar. Visitors can feast their eyes upon the intricate architectural designs which exhibit a strong Persian and Iranian influence.
